Devotional Windows of Our Lady of the Rosary Kensington

The church of Our Lady of the Rosary Kensington, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, was built in 1926, with Archbishop Michael Kelly laying the foundation stone on 2 May and presiding at the opening ceremony of the completed building on 28 November. From the 1930s a number of stained-glass windows were installed above the sanctuary and along the north and south walls of the nave mostly under the supervision of Irish-born parish priest Father Edmond McAuliffe, OBE with the generous support of parishioners who donated money for particular windows or as part of fund-raising efforts in the parish as a whole. The windows were designed and constructed by Sydney’s leading stained-glass makers of the day.

Above the sanctuary of the church is a magnificent five panel window depicting Our Lord instituting the Eucharist. Along the north and south walls, a series of windows, either triptychs or single panels, depict the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious mysteries of the Rosary as well as Our Lady of the Rosary flanked by St Dominic and St Rose of Lima, and the Sacred Heart of Our Lord.

The windows bear inscriptions identifying the persons in whose memory the windows were erected and/or the persons who donated the windows, and, in many cases, both. This book contains colour images and descriptions of the windows and provides information on the donors and those memorialised.
